Year Established: 2000
Restaurateur: Andrey Jan
Restaurant Type: Full Service
Restaurant Concept
Joe’s Noodle House serves superb, properly spicy authentic Sichuan cuisine.
Restaurant Feature
Decoration
It is not a fancy affair: the 15 small tables are crammed into a typical American suburban mall.
Menu
The menu includes many of Sichuan’s famous food. Traditional Sichuan offerings include Ma Po tofu (made with plentiful amounts of the addictive but scalding pepper called hua jiao), dry-fried green beans (ganbian siji dou), and the delicious twice-cooked pork (hui guo rou). Shui zhu yu, which is fish cooked in boiling oil, a popular dish that came out of Beijing a couple of years ago. Vegetarians will be well catered for.
Signature Dish
There’s no longer a Joe at this spare storefront Chinese restaurant, but there are still plenty of noodles. Some are thick and white, like the "drunken" rice noodles topped with crumbled beef and crisp slivers of green bell pepper; others are thin and glassy, like the ones in a big bowl of soup blazing with red chilies and teeming with soft pieces of fish.
